
YIT, a Finnish construction and development company, has commenced the construction of a self-developed apartment building, Asunto Oy Tampereen Ohjaaja, in Tohlopinranta, Tampere, Finland. Â
The contract, valued at €11m ($11.42m), will be recorded in YIT’s order book for the fourth quarter of 2024.
Construction of the six-storey apartment building on Lake Tohloppi’s shore began in November 2024, with completion expected by December 2025.
The building will house 38 apartments ranging from 23m² to 100.5m², covering a total area of approximately 2,900m². Â
Each apartment will include a balcony and water-circulating ceiling heating panels that can also provide cooling during the hotter months.Â
Asunto Oy Tampereen Ohjaaja is being designed to incorporate sustainable practices throughout its design and construction phases. Â

Parking facilities will be available at the nearby Kiinteistö Oy Tohlopinranta Pysäköinti, with provisions for electric vehicle chargers. Â
Renewable electricity will power the construction site, and waste management will focus on minimising mixed waste through sorting.
YIT Housing and Business Premises Pirkanmaa regional director Sami Viitanen said: “I am very pleased that we will be able to start the construction of our second self-developed apartment building in Tampere within a month, after a hiatus of more than two years.

In Tohlopinranta, the lake and its surroundings will be part of the residents’ day-to-day lives.”Â
The location offers access to a trail around Lake Tohloppi, providing opportunities for various activities. Â
Upon completion, the district will see improved surroundings with traffic rerouted away from the lake.
Last month, YIT signed a contract valued at approximately €11m with A-Kruunu to construct a rental building within the Kangas urban development area in Jyväskylä, Finland.Â
